Parthiv
Patel Career
Parthiv Patel has been the biggest
contributor to the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy. Gujarat reached the final only
for the second time by defeating Odisha and
Jharkhand in the quarterfinals and semi-finals. In January, Gujarat competed
against defending champions Mumbai. That match was played in Indore.
Patel scored 90 runs in the first
innings and 143 runs in the second innings and made Gujarat's way in winning
the trophy. Patel's 143 in the Ranji Trophy final is his highest score.
With this win, Gujarat won the Ranji
Trophy for the first time and Patel became the first captain of Gujarat to win
three important domestic trophies.
Parthiv Patel played the first Test
match against England at Trent Bridge in 2002 and became the youngest
wicketkeeper in the history of Test cricket. At that time, he was only 17
years old. He was playing in place of injured Ajay Ratra and also
broke the record of Pakistan 's
youngest wicket-keeper Hanif Mohammed (age 17 years and 300 days).
But due to Dhoni 's
arrival in 2008 and Parthiv's poor wicketkeeping, he was dropped for
a few matches.
In 2003, Patel played the first ODI
match against New Zealand. He was included in the Indian team for the 2003
World Cup but he was not given a chance to play a single match as Rahul Dravid was
seen as a capable wicketkeeper and batsman in the Indian team at that
time .
He was then rejoined the team to
play a match against South Africa due to an injured Sachin
Tendulkar .
In 2015, he appeared as an opener from
Mumbai Indians.
He played his first T20 match at the
Queen's Park Oval ground in Port of Spain. Patel was playing as an opener
in that match and another new left-handed batsman Shikhar Dhawan was playing
to support him.
Parthiv Patel was replaced by injured
Wriddhiman Saha in the third Test match played in Mohali. Justifying the
decision of the selectors, he performed brilliantly in that match and scored an
unbeaten 67 in only 54 balls, which led to India winning the match.
