Career
K. L. Rahul played his first first-class match from
Karnataka in 2010-11. In the same year in 2010, he also led India in the
ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup. He first played in IPL in 2013 against
Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Rahul played his first Test match on 26 December 2014 at the
Melbourne Cricket Ground. Rahul was playing in that match in place of
Rohit Sharma. In that match, Rahul was taking over the reins of the Indian
team as captain.
In the fourth Test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground, he
went to bat at his old number. He scored a stunning 110 after coming in to
bat in the salute along with Murali Vijay. That century was Rahul's first
international century.
He returned to India after batting in that Test series and
scored his first triple century while playing in the first series from
Karnataka. He became the first batsman from Karnataka to score a triple
century.
He scored 188 runs in the last match played against Tamil
Nadu. That year, he scored in the 2014-15 Ranji Trophy at an average of
93.11 in all 9 matches.
He was included in the Indian team for the Bangladesh tour in
June 2015. But due to dengue, he could not go on a tour of Bangladesh on
this occasion.
Rahul was named in India's last 15 players for 2016
Zimbabwe tour. He played his first ODI match against Zimbabwe in Harare
Sports Club on 11 June 2016.
He scored a century in that match and he became the first batsman in India to score a century in the first match. On 18 June 2016, he played the first T20 match against Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club. In that T20 match, Rahul was already out on the ball.
This is the first time in the history of the Indian team that
for the first time, a batsman has been dismissed on the ball already in a T20
match.
In 2016, Rahul was included in the Indian team for a series
of four Test matches. Playing in the second match, Rahul scored a
brilliant 158 runs in
Jamaica. That was his best score at that time.
And at the same time, he became the first batsman from India
to score a century against the West Indies in the first Test match. He had
scored a century in only 46 balls in the first match of the T20 Mecho series
played in America.
He was the second batsman to do such a feat and became the
first batsman of India. As an opener, he has made a record of scoring a
century in the first match of Tests and ODIs in his own name.
Lokesh Rahul has also recorded the fastest century in only 20
innings in the name of himself in all three formats of cricket. Earlier,
Ahmed Shehzad made such a record in 76 innings.
Even after coming at number 4 in T20 history, he is the only
player to score a century (110 not out).
In the 2016 IPL season, he was again seen playing towards the
Royal Challengers Bangalore.
